When Rejection Knocks on Your Door

I think we’ve all felt at times like the “odd man out”. Or we don’t belong, or fit in.  Feeling unwanted, not enough, overlooked, replaced, devalued, shut down, brushed aside, pushed away, dismissed, neglected, forgotten about, and the list could go on.  Rejection.  It comes in many different forms.  Many different voices.  From many different sources and situations. Like at your job, in a marriage, from your children, from a parent, maybe a coach, a teacher, a bully, or maybe cousins or even siblings.  Sadly, sometimes it comes from church leaders, or from a parent as a child or young adult growing up or maybe even as an adult.

Rejection is loud.  Not always physically loud, but emotionally loud. And it stings. It leaves an ache, a pain, and scars the heart and mind with lies about who we are. It attacks our identity, sometimes to the place where we end up rejecting even ourselves.  Rejection is crippling.  It shapes a tainted lens that we see life through.  When we look at ourselves and others around us through the lens of rejection, it hinders us from truly living life in freedom and it traps us in a place of false perceptions, causing further damage to our heart, poking at the raw open wounds that still exist and that we may have even come to embrace as part of who we are.  Rejection is a liar.  But makes itself sound so convincing that so many times we come into agreement with it and live as if it is the truth. Living under rejection is like being held hostage by words that were spoken to us or actions that were done against us and staying trapped in that place, because most of the time rejection brings his friend “fear”.  Rejection is isolating and lonely.  It keeps us from being the true person God designed us to be.  Rejection robs us and lies to us to destroy our purpose.  Sound familiar?  Yep.  A pretty big tool of the enemy.

I’d say rejection is one of the greatest weapons the enemy uses against us in order to distort us from knowing who we really are and our true identity in Christ. If the enemy can rob our identity, then he can stop us from fulfilling the plans and purposes God has designed us to live out.  If he does that for the majority of people, then he gains ground in preventing the church from being effective for the Kingdom.  It’s all quite strategic on his part. Sadly, he sees the bigger picture even when we don’t at times.  So how do we get free from living a life under the stronghold and lies of rejection?  Let’s explore…

Jesus died on the cross as the ultimate picture and example of rejection.  He knew on a pretty large scale exactly what rejection felt like, and he endured it on our behalf.  He was rejected by his own hometown, by family, friends that he counted on, that were the closest to him.  He was rejected by religious leaders and government leaders. If that wasn’t bad enough, as he hung on the cross bearing the weight of all of mankind’s sin, His own heavenly Father turned his back.  "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46)

Rejection and abandonment. He knew what that kind of isolation felt like. He knew the heaviness of feeling so alone and undone.  And I can only imagine the lies and taunting that the enemy was speaking to His heart in that grave moment of vulnerability. Lies that may have felt very real. Jesus felt with human emotion the devastation of rejection. And yet, he chose to endure it out of pure love and selflessness for us.  “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13) That’s the truth. That is the true value of who you are to him. You are so valued and treasured by Jesus that he was willing to endure horrific pain and suffering, not just physically, but emotionally, mentally and spiritually, just to show you how much he values WHO YOU ARE as His Heavenly Father’s prized creation.  The best thing God ever created was YOU!  The truth is, from the very beginning, God’s intentions were to create human beings out of His great love,  in His image or likeness, in order to have community and relationship with Him.  His heart has been bursting with love for you since before you were even conceived. His love goes beyond what you can think or imagine. It stretches from before the garden of Eden to the cross, and beyond to where you sit today. And it will continue on for eternity.  Nothing can separate us from the love of God.

Romans 8:38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

His love for you is unwavering and unconditional. It supersedes all lies. It holds no bounds. It meets us right where we are, in the middle of our pain.  In the middle of the wounds that we’ve endured. It comes in the night to comfort us, and it never leaves or abandons.  It doesn’t require perfection or performance. It doesn’t demand anything.  His love will transform the most broken places and the driest of deserts into the wellsprings of life.  Because His heart is for YOU. He sings over YOU. He accepts YOU just as you are. No strings attached and no questions asked. The God of the universe wants YOU. He sent His son to die a very lonely, painful death so that we could encounter His love.  That is the epitome of acceptance.  He says you are chosen, you are loved, you are fearfully and wonderfully made, you were created with a divine purpose, you are called, you are His son or daughter, you are seated in the heavenly places with Him, you are a reflection of Him, you are forgiven, you are redeemed, you are worthy, you are valuable, you are uniquely made, you cannot be replaced, you are wanted, you belong!

The God of the universe sees you. He sees your heart, your mind, your emotions, your hurts, your situation, your sorrow, your grief, your losses, your dreams, your disappointments, your weaknesses, your strengths, your hopes, your desires, all of it. He knows you better than you know yourself, because the artist knows His own design best. And if we choose to invite him into our brokenness, the lies we’ve believed, the hurt and wounds, He will also be our Healer.  He is TRUTH, and if we come to Him in surrender, choose to trust His words of LIFE, renounce all the lies the enemy has spoken and invite Him to bring our hearts out of captivity, He will be our rescuer. He will come and bring LIFE. He will heal the wounds.  “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (Romans 8:32)

 Invite Him today to meet you in the rejection. He understands. He’s been there. He wants to lift you out, so that you’d know your TRUE IDENTITY.  Who He says you are! His plans for you are good. To PROSPER you and to give you a HOPE and a FUTURE!  Call to Him today and let His Truth be louder than all the lies. The lens of Truth makes life look a lot different and there’s a whole lot of freedom looking through that lens. Much more clarity and light! He’s waiting for you.

Pray:

 Father God,  I Repent to you for listening to a lying spirit that has accused me to myself telling me I am of no value, worthless, a failure, and rejected. I repent for allowing rejection and abandonment to rule in my life, and today I come out of agreement with the voices of rejection and the lies of the enemy. I also choose to accept your unconditional love for me.

 I repent for fear of man, fear of failure, fear of being rejected and fear of abandonment. I repent for unbelief and doubt. I repent for the iniquity of my generations that have followed this course of life. I cancel any curse, vow, agreement, or covenant that has resulted from the sin of rejection and abandonment in Jesus name. (I renounce all these things and all ungodly sin patterns that I allowed myself to partake in or anyone in my bloodline)

By faith, I release forgiveness to all individuals who have offended, betrayed, hurt or wounded me that resulted in me taking on rejection and I hand each person over to you Jesus and I release them. By faith, I break off all ungodly spirit, body and soul ties to those persons and I cut those ties supernaturally and break them off in Jesus name. And I command all unclean spirits attached to those ties to leave and go now where Jesus sends you!

 Holy spirit, I ask you to minister into any place where I have judged myself as unworthy, of no value, and inadequate. Expose any spirit that has tapped into that inadequacy. Lord, I ask you to minister into my identity of who I am in Christ Jesus. I invite you to speak
